rocker cover gasket
« on: 07 April 2004, 07:59 »
Guys,

thought id share the fun ive been having with this!

oil leak on g\f`s mk1 cab 86`, could see rocker cover leaking a bit so went to vw`s to get a new one ?5 something... changed it over drove to the shops and cars started smoking, checked the engine bay and oil everywhere!!, got it back home then noticed the pack of studs in the box DOH! how frustrating!

older gasket was old style 3 peice new one is 1 peice rubber one. also old studs have a rim which prevent the new gasket from sitting flat (hence the oil) new ones dont have this rim!

took me ages taking the studs out using the 2 nut and chiseling the thread so you could undo the nut method!!

havent tested for leaks as was working on it till 11 last night!  took the opportunity to hammerite the rocker cover and cam cover tho!

also noticed 2 other things
1 cam has slight black coating?
2 cam belt has a slight wear mark in the middle

anyone help with these, worth worrying abt?

end of rant...

the tensioner may have done wear mark in the belt...

worth replacing belt and tensioner........ how many miles has the belt done........

if the belt brakes it doesnt normaly affect the engine.....but its better to replace the belt n tensioner than to have it snap.......
