Ed30/Gti Manual/Handbook
« on: 05 March 2008, 19:16 »
Howdo all, just about to join the Ed30 crowd and I was wondering if anyone knew anywhere online where I could possibly download the Gti Handbook. The teutonic_tamer gave a good running-in schedule and I see  he's also submitted some workshop pdf files. Would be nice to read up on the thing before I pick the beauty up tbh.

I bought an import and I haven't had much luck with the local dealers (which is sort of understandable really), just hope they would be more understanding if any warranty work should come their way.

cheers,

If you have ordered an import your handbook probably is'nt in english so you will have to order one from VW costs £30,also you should'nt have any problems with waranty work as its a european warranty.

Welcome trint,

It is very rare that you will find any VW manuals for the ED30/GTI going spare. I've only known one lucky person on here who wanted one and another forum member had a spare one

However, the VW site should keep you amused for a while (see below)

make sure if its 2nd hand, do run the cars regestration plate on VW's computer to ....
1.. make sure the cars regestured in the uk if it is a import car.
2..If its not regestured, it wont have any history on VW's data base ref to any service history.
3. Do bear in mind if you dont check the above before buying the car, you wont be able to make ANY claims under 2 years of warranty if its not been regestured. i nearly made the same mistake when buying an edition 30 like yourself.Dealers wont cover on warranty claims.
Then if you tryed to sell it , you will have one hell of a job shifting it.

If its a brand new import, there are some other things to look for, especially specification,What the car comes with on a europeon model, things like headlight settings, number of speakers it has as in some cases rear speakers arent fitted as standard.
Im sure there are loads of people who have bought new imports and are totally fine, but if its 2nd hand import, you really need to do some detective work before buying it.(i was looking at a 56 plate which had already 4 owners!!, and 6 rejected bodywork paint claims plus numerous leather trim claims too, up for what seemed a really cheap price, and looked fab in photos....(red 5 door dsg for 18995 near nottingham)

As they say if its too good to be true, then it proberly is.

appreciate the feedback fellas, looks like I'll just have to play that manual lottery and hope that one turns up soon-ish (or wait until I get a response from a dealer in the land).

I've already learnt a lot from this site (vag-com units, tuning, headlight replacements etc..) so I look forward in making the most of my new v-dub ownership and hopefully some contributions can be made when I get to know the car more...

About the import, it is new and hasn't been registered as yet (needs to be pre-registered first so I'll be second owner which is a bit paap). Was a bit paranoid with the deal at first as I've heard a few mentions about some cars at some car supermarkets being left out in the open for several months, showing some wear from the elements. Managed to talk it through a bit more through and asking for the chassis number put my mind at rest as I could use it at the site ( http://www.abvwc.org.uk/vw_vin.htm ) to get a break down of the car info...handy that! :)

roll on next month..and roll on the excitement after changing from the mighty clio dci...

stevieC, I notice you bought an import and didn't have any issues... did you find it painless in organising insurance though (that's if the car was pre registered). I understand some dealers hold on to the V5 for the first few months but I assume this doesn't necessarily affect insurance premiums. The V5 does not denote ownership in this case.

If I can't get the V5 document, I take it as long as I state that I'm the owner and give the correct car spec I won't be invalidating any insurance...

Trint all my dealer asked for was my service books etc so they could register my car and log it onto there data base, the only problem is if its a new import you sometimes dont get the books for 4 to 5 weeks but they might still register it without them thats what they done with me, and told me to hand them in when they arrive. Also the dealer never held onto my v5,and regarding insurance this was'nt a problem.

Trint ... is your car a brand new import ?  .. where are you getting it from ?

I've imported through Motorprovider,  Motorpoint and more recently AllbrandsNew .. never had any problems.

All you need for insurance is the registration number, it's no problem at all, your dealer/importer should allocate you this about a week before pickup.

Your service book with PDI stamp and date (Pre Delivery Inspection) should be available on collection ... make sure it is, even if the service book is in a foreign language   You need the PDI details and the data stickers, as these are unique to your car.

Your V5 document will follow shortly (1 week with AllbrandsNew, around 6 with the others).

Once you have the V5 you can register the car with VW UK by taking the V5 and service booklet to your dealer.  Alternatively you can
fax or e-mail them yourself to VW UK. You will get two years warranty from the date of your PDI - it is therefore very IMPORTANT that you see this date before buying the car.

If you really want an English set of manuals asap you can occasionally find them on E-bay (in a full Leather GTI holder) for around £30 - £40.

There is one going at the moment :-

That manual on ebay did come under my eye and I'm currently watching it to see how it goes, can always ask for one when I pop in to a stealer to register the car as stevie says.

Glad to go down the import route as the service from motorhouse has been great throughout and the car is amazing (new with a few miles on the clock), all questions were answered without hesitation. Just have to be patient now till the end of the month (savings can't be released till then, again they were good in keeping it for that time). Will be getting the V5.

Thanks for the peace of mind there JonnyG :)

It's all M5/M6 motorway to Motorhouse so if you see a golf gti in the slow lane changing speeds erratically don't worry, its only me trying to run in the engine, trying not to keep the revs constant.
