How do Mk2 golf compare against jap cars?

I have always been a big fan of golfs, especialy Mk2's. Before i change from a mk1 to mk2 golf, I would like to know, can they cut it against the likes of early/mid 90's civics? the si and vtec versions?

gti 8v and 16v   vs civics?(spotier models)

gotta admit CRX Vtech's are fast. will piss on my 8v, duno about the 16v mk2???

by the end of the race the CRX would fall to bits because of rust

i had a Vtec CRX untill last month when it died of Rust, Fast as You know what off shuvvel but handled like poo

jap cars are expencive to run parts, insurance. etc.....
i admit some are nice......some just dont last long on wet roads........on saying that mr2's dont seem to rust!
ive also seem some old hondas with little no no rust on them..........

i soppose its down to how well they were made.......
rust protection may have been sprayed on thicker on some cars.........

performance wise does anybody think gtis can match up to civics?

It depends which one  you go for, With a 16V GTI MKs V a 95 UK spec LSI Vtec Single cam the 16V will kick ass over all, The civic has the advantage of Vtec but its top speed holds it back.

Everyone knows german cars are faster than Japanese cars however i do plan a Honda B18D twin cam Vtec swap into a Mk2 golf so watch this space

mmmmmn wouldnt really know but if yr talking about Type-R models, then its bye bye GTi they wouldnt stand a chance! unless u get the daddys out.....R32, VR6

my mates CRX 1.6i non vtech was very fast but he could never turn corners at my speeds.

The VTech is bloddy fast. Fielder.....Top speed holds it back? My mate did more than 130mph with two people in the back (very squashed )

I used to have a mk2 CRX 16v (non vtech) and the secret is the weight of them (or lack of it). They have similar power (albeit at higher revs) to a golf 16v but are a full 200kg lighter! It was quite a flying machine and handled well too, but the steering was very uncommunicative and yes parts are hard to get and expensive. In old age I'd take the golf every time - far far less of a liability.
