If you mean what kind of flare the ones on my VW van are like the pic below and I would assume the Golf is the same as they're of the same vintage.

yes sorry, im re-making some copper hard brake lines as the unions on mine are all f***ed when changing to goodrige hoses.
from my practicing, that pic looks like a double male flare?
