Let's drive!
« on: 05 March 2008, 10:22 »
Got a rare weekend away coming up, so a few of the boys are off to play in North Wales.
Can't wait to get up a mountain again (it's been ages) but I'm just as excited about a proper good drive in the Golf - 3+ hours all up the A5, getting narrower & more winding all the way.
Anyone else done a good drive lately - or got one coming up?

Golf GTI: good enough as it is

i have a 2300 miles road trip planned in july across europe including:
- Millau Viaduct, France (World's tallest road bridge)
- Turin, Italy (via the Alps, tunnel and road driving)
- Zurich, Switzerland (Alps again)
- Nurburgring, Germany (because the Golf would like to die in style)
- Amsterdam, Netherlands (well...)

do u think the golf will take it? we plan to do this in 10-14 days  :undecided:

I don't think a semi will give the same results

I did the Belgian GP in my valver last year, didn't miss a beat

We're planning on doing both Belgian and Italian GPs this year back-to-back possibly in a Scirocco  :undecided: I doubt this trip will go quite as smoothly!

any advice besides the obvious:
service before you go
take oil and coolant for top ups
ensure insurance/breakdown cover is sorted (which it is)
get a european health insurance card (which i have)
phrasebook
light kit/emergency triangle/first aid kit

???

Looks like you've got everything sorted  Some european countries also require you to have hi-vis vests in the car also.  Only bit of advice I can think of is to have some restraint on those lovely smooth european motorways...for fuel consumption apart from anything else!

Oh and definitely consider blackboard painting your bonnet
