DSG Launch Control
« on: 29 February 2008, 10:09 »
What do people think?

i was having a mess around last night,

esp off, dsg in S, foot on brake, press down on accelerator, revs won't go past 3k, and foot off brake.

Sounds simple enough but first time around i just lit my front tyres up!

second time was too cautious and it all went a bit funny,

Third time tried it at a roundabout, bit of wheel spin and then off.

I found that there is a split second between taking your foot off the brake and then the car taking off, also by the feel of what the car is doing it seems like the clutch is partially engaged on first gear when your doing it.

Dont think i'll be doing it again, maybe just once more to show my mate, dont want to be wearing my clutches out.

Does anyone know if the clutches in the dsg need replacing at all? how long do you get out of them?

i believe its a skill you have to learn, just like a manual launch requires skill to get just right with no wheel spin

The DSG clutches are designed to last the lifetime of the car.

Whatever the lifetime of the car is :undecided:

Launch control has been the subject of many threads in the past and not even VW will give a definitive answer on whether or not the launch control is meant to be used more than twice or not :undecided:

Once you've mastered it then it is a great little feature. I only tend to use it when doing standing qtrs

Interesting fact i found was my passat dsg doesnt have launch control fitted, i have esp, but when trying the launch like the GTi for the 1st time , i looked a right prat cus it didnt shoot off!!. So if its fitted to the GTi, surely then its something that shouldnt be limited, if its on there, then it must mean the car can do it without distroying the Gearbox as some peeps think that it does.
Could it be the fact you cant launch control a diesel Dsg????, anyone have a GT diesel in a golf form know it works?? or even the TSi Version??.

I've had 2 Diesel DSG's and neither had launch control.

It seems a little hit and miss as to whether the standard GTI has DSG too. Some have , some haven't. All ED30 DSG do and all R32 DSG do.
