quick question - seperating rear big bumper

My girlfriend has just bought a mk2 8v, however it has had the rear tailgate smoothed and the no. plate fitting into the back bumper,  id rather just buy a new standard tailgate and bumper, but she likes it.   Anyway whoever did the job has had the rear bumper sprayed completely including the black plastic part of the bumper,  but the rest of the kit is still black.  Looks very odd !!

Question is....  Is it easy enough to seperate the lower painted bit from rear bumper ?  is it just a case of unbolting it ?   so she can keep the modified bit for the no. plate and replace the plastic bit with a black one.

why not mask off the botom part sand the top then retexture and matt black it

Matt blacking it I thought about, but how would you get the texture ?

with a lot of skill to get it looking right if DIY...just buy another rear bumper and follow the other guys lead on the number plate fitting...sure it won't be half as hard and costly as retexturing the original bumper

TBH if it were mine i'd source an original tailgate and bumper, but she quite likes it !    I just cant understand why anybody would paint just the back bumper and not the rest of the kit !!

texture spray comes in aerosol and was about£8 a can compared to buying new bumper modifying and having it resprayed
have a search for smart repairs and read up a bit or have a go balls it up and it only costs about £8
