calling anyone with VAG central locking
« on: 05 April 2004, 13:32 »
I want to add one of my spare central locking soleniods to work the boot aswell, but can't see how to rig up the links to disable the psuh button on the tailgate so it only opens when the car is unlocked.

if anyone with CL fitted as standard would mind taking off the plastic cover on their tailgate and taking some pics it would be greatly appreciated :)

Damn, the last one I broke for spares had that.........I've still got all the linkage and solenoid somewhere......but can't remember how it was all fitted. If you don't get any success here, I'll see if I can get my father in law to take some pics of his.............

LOL, I think you'll find that what Dizzie is after is pics of the lock mechanism immediately behind the exterior push button for tailgate release. You may find there is a plastic cover over it that will need removing first.

cool, so I'm taking a picture of the inside of the boot lock mechanism right?

i.e. not trying to take off the lock on the outside and take a pic of what's underneath it!!

maybe I'll take a pic of everything just to be safe..... ;D

The lock in the boot of the MK2 on the factory central locking has a white plastic slider piece that is connected to the solenoid via an operating rod.

When you lock the car it slides it out of the way and the outside push button has nothing to push on so it doesn't unlock.

When you unlock the car the slider piece moves back into position and the lock button pushes onto the lock and opens it.

The above is also determined by the position of the lock barrel, as one is constant lock, one is central locking and the other is a fail safe to allow you to get into the boot.

I had a look at a mates tonight so I know what you mean now. thanks guys.

Rich, do you have the extra bits I need as it'll save a trip to the scrappy I hate?

If I do this and my battery dies so much it won't operate my central locking am I f**ked?

Well no, If you read what I put again the lock barrel has a fail safe that you can use.

Put the key in the lock and turn it right over to the right and hold it in this position. push the lock in.

This pops the boot.

Thats if you adapt the standard sliding lock mechanism the air operated systems have.
