burgulary and Cheshire
« on: 27 February 2008, 13:38 »
hiya
woken at 4pm this morning by a 'bang' (no I wasnt that lucky!).  Went downstairs and had burgulars. Luckily, although they got in the house they didnt find car keys and appears they fled when they heard me moving.

had various police, CID, forensics etc. All of them convinced its a team from Liverpool stealing ' cars like GTi to order' in the area. and that the car was the only reason for the break-in (laptop, tv. hi-fi etc all left)
Police also suggested that they tend to 'work an area' so sounds like that area is now/currently Cheshire, in my case CW4.
regards
mark.

Ouch

Glad they didn't get the car but sorry you've been broken in to.

I actually live in Liverpool city centre, thankfully it's a flat though so working out that a) I have a GTI and b) which flat it belongs to might be difficult!

Cheers

M

You were very lucky, a colleague in Wilmslow, Cheshire heard glass shattering thinking it was a picture falling of the wall went downstairs to be confronted by two guys in balaclavas demanding the keys to his Golf GTI. With a newborn baby upstairs he didn't hesitate to give them to them.

I've heard recently Police advice is to leave your car keys down stairs so that they take the keys without battering you in the process.

Suffice to say I have a golf club and big dog to keep my GTI safe.

Always go down stairs with a 5 iron. How ironic it would to be beaten by a Golf club trying to steal a Golf !

At least you are all okay Mark

It's probably one of the worst things that you could do - confronting organised, steal to order criminals, as they will be professionals and not afraid to resort to violence

Let's hope they catch them fast eh?

You would probably end up killing them and getting done for murder.

Still, I just dont know what would go through my head is somone tried to steal my car. I think i'd just see the red mist which as you said Hurdy, probably isnt a good thing.

Good you are okay, I had two attempts last year, one breaking the door lock the other attempting to get the glass out of the window. I was angry the first time but then I got sense. Even thought it may be your pride and joy and your missus says "....Sometimes I think you love that car more then me...." & you are thinking "....she thinks its only sometimes..." remember its a car. I have two kids under 3 and I'm not fighting some thief to save the car. I'll fight to the death to protect the family, the car can be replaced. If it gets nicked I'll just have to get a Passat and get some nice driving slippers.....never....

I replaced my house alarm with a very good one with feck loads of sensors to give me piece of mind at night. I'm sure the age old tracker thread will start soon.

I think the worst time to have a heart attack is during a game of charades. Especially if your teammates are bad guessers.

Same here... attempted break in at 3am one night last October. To$$ers made enough racket trying to break the lock in the front door, so I woke up and as soon as I switched on the lights they high tailed it. So it seems most of these scummers are not up for confrontation and most will just grab what they can in the kitchen or whatever. I've seen lots of people say "leave the keys downstairs" but there's no way I'm prepared to make it that easy for them.

I also got a good house alarm installed since, and proper locks. Peace of mind for the missus if nothing else

On the point about Trackers, I think that unless your insurance company insists on one you should steer well clear.

Having had a car stolen and recovered, twice... After the same guy came back and nicked it again.... I can assure you, you will not want a stolen car back. There is nothing worse than driving a car that you know some thieving scumbag has thrashed around in previously. Furthermore the amount of arguing you have to do with the repair guys to get your pride and joy brought back to the standard it was pre-joyride is ridiculous. Then theres the wear and tear on the engine through the thrashing its had, which they can't do anything to fix.

If I ever have a car stolen again I honestly hope I never see it again.
