ive only had my mk3 16v for 2 weeks and love it! but theres definately a big old skool appeal about the mk2 
 but i wouldnt change an mk2 8v for a mk3 8v,your gonna b dissapointed with performance and handling etc due to the weight difference!!!
if you really want a mk3 then id go for the 16v............or keep it old skool n get a 16v mk2
id hav gt 1 if it wasnt for the sprog, "safety 1st" etc.....mikesters gt a point in that respect....
bt if u dnt hav that worry,KEEP IT OLD SKOOL DUDE!

and mike i remember you saying your abs was shi7e! oh and have you ever tried the airbag? i had a bad head on crash and the airbag didnt deploy! something to do with the sensors location (oh it wasnt a vw tho)
