retro fit multifunction wheel?

I am thinking of purchasing a vw 05 dsg but it has no flappy paddles?

Has anyone retrofitted the multifunction steering wheel at a vw dealers? if so, can you advise on the rough costs?

Cost me approximatly £300 pounds+ fitting.(1hr approx). If you have a midline computer, not all the buttons will work fully .ie change up/down cd tracks on my cd player (sat nav mfd2).This was in my Passat.
If you have highline computer, then wheel will work as owners handbook states.ie with radio controls.

My up/down buttons only go through trip/ mpg/range etc, whereas with highline computer, it scrolls through all menu's +scrolls up n down cd tracks etc.

I think you may need a different "steering control module" to allow the paddles to work. I have read some info on vwvortex about the slip-ring needing changing ( its behind the steering wheel).

As an aside, I have paddles so adding the multifuction buttons was easy, just swap them in from a passat wheel bought from ebay.

I really wouldn't worry too much about the lack of paddles, if you've never had them you wont miss them.

I had them on my 3.2 Audi and hardly used them and don't miss them on my DSG Golf. I used to find that if you caught up to something you wanted to overtake it was easier to knock it into Sport mode and instantly be in the right gear than use the paddles as you would inevitably be in 6th and need to drop down to 3rd to hit the right power band.

However whilst in getting my Cruise Control fitted today I did make enquiries. The Service manager was a little stumped as they'd never actually performed one of these jobs before (not very reassuring) but came back advising that £300 sounded about right for the wheel and expected it to be a one or two hour job.
