gear change noise
« on: 25 February 2008, 21:38 »
Ive noticed a high pitched short whine noise when I change down gears.I have a mk2 1.3, when I brake put the clutch in change gear and release the clutch thats when it happens. My ideas are

The clutch is grinding
the brakes need changing
Im releasing the brakes too early and the engine is jolting because of the high revs in a lower gear.

any ideas?

Not to sure exactly when this happens but it sounds like the gearbox?

alternatively the output shaft on the gearbox is a bit worn, sounds cool though cos it sounds like a straight cut box.

Spoke to a guy today, he reckoned it might be the thrust or the diaphram.Just general old car stuff. He said not to worry about stuff until it happens. Its still bugging me though, just have to take it easier when Im bombin round country roads.
