Mk5 2.0 FSI GT Coolant Leak and ESP problem
« on: 25 February 2008, 21:26 »
First I'd just like to say hi to all you Mk5 peeps.
I used to be on this forum loads a few years back when I had a Mk4 GTI, and now I'm back with a Mk5 Golf GT.

Anyway, I picked up my new (second hand) car on Friday at the stealers and drove it 300 miles to my in-laws.  During this journey, the ESP warning light came on and I lost power.  I was on the motorway - I had to go over to the hard shoulder and turn off the ignition to reset it. Has anyone ever had this?

Also, the bloomin' thing was leaking coolant too. When I actually picked it up, the dashboard warned me about low coolant so I asked the techs to look at it - I thought they checked it but I guess they just topped it up because when I was near my destination the coolant warning appeared again.  I took the car to the nearest stealers and they gave me a Passat to drive in the meantime.  I'm well p**sed off because I only had the car for a day and now it's 300 miles away and I'll have to go back there to pick it up!!!

bah!

Welcome back Richy

Sorry to hear you're having a bad experience with your GT. Lets hope it is just one of those new ownership teething problems and not a "Friday afternoon" car :undecided:

Have the dealers given you any form of compensation for the inconvenience yet? Free first service?

Thanks Hurdy.

The garage I took the car to have been great, but the garage I bought the car from not so good. I've told them about the problem, and I'm letting them dig their own grave - I'm writing down everything they do/say and I will write a letter to VW head office if they don't sort it to my satisfaction.

I did this a few years back when a garage crashed my car, and didn't tell me about it until I noticed the scratches. I got 250 quid off VW head office.

Welcome back

Pity to hear about the car. Maybe the cars computer just needs to be reset?

BTW- Never assume anything when it comes to a stealer

Robinsons VW in Norwich have fixed my car and they've been pretty good.  I pick it up again on Sunday.

Woo!! it will be like having a new car again as I only had it for 24 hours the first time!

Danes VW in Chester (where I bought the car) have yet to offer me anything. I wrote an angry letter to VW head office yesterday and copied-in the brand manager at Danes.

Thankfully there are several VW garages to take my car to around here, so I wont have to go back there!
