Damage Costs: Front Panel Hit and run last night
« on: 22 February 2008, 21:08 »
Hey guys,

Was parked outside a restaurant yesterday and came back to this:

Pissed off is not the word to describe my anger!!
I have a high excess fee to pay so would rather avoid the insurance company..

How much do you guys think it would cost to repair this?
Would i need a new panel or is this fixable?
I have heard of those vaccum/suction thingies for straightening out then pay for respray etc?

The bumper is scratched as well but I was looking to replace this anway.

I look forward to any advice/estimate costs!

p.s: There were no cameras there so pointless getting the police involved with a report

Thanks,

G

W*&KERS!!! unlucky mate

they were probably pissed or somethin. id call the OB anyway although it probably wont help. id imagine if the metal is creased youd be better off getting a new wing. pretty cheap from GSF. paint match would be the expensive bit?

ITS A TRAP!

I feel for you man, my car has a dent on the drivers side wing right on the corner from some wayne kerr who dented it a few days before I bought the car... I'm not going to repair it as I want to get a GTi later this year - if not a VR6 conversion.

Yeah man so pissed off, did not really need this as I have been saving for some nice wheels!

Any ideas on costs of the wing/panel?

Usual question: are the GSF body parts any good?!

  • Know there's something burning over there...

I don't think a semi will give the same results

I dont think I wil be trying that though, the paint has come off the edges of the panel too!

An origional pannel is the way to go if you can get a exact colour match your laughing. Wing comes off fairly easily. Remove the plastic cover under the wing. undo the 4-5 bolts  on the top. There is one bolt at the bottom by the skirts. Now bend the wing out and remove the two further bolts which are covered in sealent which you will need to remove. These two are a bit tricky to get on too, bit of patience required

GSF do them, not sure on the cost there, but it's not going to cost a great deal for the wing & spray. I'm sure you could fit it.

Well the cheapest is to simply go to a scrappie and find the same coloured car and pinch a wing? I've got a pattern wing on my car, I think it was about £12 from ECP and it fitted up just fine, wasn't any real alignment issues (which is the only real concern with pattern body parts).

Spray garages seem to charge whatever they like nowadays (my mate got quoted £1500 for a door and a wing to be sprayed on a CTR!), but expect to fork out about £70-130.

Thanks guys,

I went to a 2 body shops, best quote i got was 110 quids to repair it with respray etc

I have also forked out for a new front and rear bumper:
The total estimate for spray/lacquer both front and rear bumper and the damaged wing panel comes to approx £360

Is this too excessive? I mean £250 for spraying and fitting back and front bumper sounds abit excessive!?

Thanks,
G
