Quality Acrylic number plates
« on: 22 February 2008, 18:41 »
Hi guys,

Need to get a pair of plates made up for my new ED30. Can anyone recommend a company with real pride in its workmanship. I am a perfectionist and am fed up with companies that supply plates with air bubbles, bad trimming, dodgy fonts, scratched, etc. They don’t need to be the cheapest... just the best!

A quick scan online produced Demon Plates & No1 Showplates. Any good reviews, as website was very effective and seemed professional.

Also Dubmeister pressed alloy plates, quite like them... used to have some on my Harley. How durable are they when used everyday?

I value your input as always.

Cheers,  Hotrod

I've been looking for the same thing recently, so far i've had plates from 3 different companies, all of which ended up in the bin! I phoned on each occasion to complain but all i got was, "we sell thousands of these every year and never get any complaints" or words to that effect. Couldnt be bothered persuing it so i just put it down to experience and moved on.
I think i've had one from No1 showplates and Demon Plates, can remember which was which, one had quite a lot of bubbles specs of dirt in it and a funny notch along the bottom edge of the plate, looked like it had been cut wrong but i was assured this was normal! The other was a cheap nasty looking thing with the black backing which are put together in a roller, the yellow on the rear plate is very dark and just looks naff imho.

My next resort was Mal Plates, i've used them before for a non-legal show plate and i was very impressed with the quailty. However to make a legal plate they need to see your documents which i've not had time to arrange yet, think it has to be the orignals too so would need to go recorded delivery.

Mine aren't they have a kite mark and a BS number on them and they are exactly the same font as normal plates. Mind you the black and silver ones I have aren't legal!

And for the OP go to Halfords and get them made up, if they are not correct your stood there and can tell them to make them again.

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

Hi Guys,

My current acrylic plates were made up at a show, can’t remember the name of the dealer. UK legal font, correctly spaced, no border, no postcode... very simple & very clean, especially with private number. However they had to make-up three sets for me & I cherry-picked the best pair... I paid for two sets to be fair, but at £10 a pair at was a steal. No docs required to produce.

When I had pressed plates on the Harley I was only ever pulled once due to illegal spacing (tut, tut), still let me off with a warning. (States Plates made these up for me.)

If I went for Dubmeister plates they would be simple and plain, I’m not trying to evade cameras, my Road Angel sorts that out for me. I just want some classy plates to compliment the ride!

Any more views/recommendations guys?

Cheers... Hotrod

Hi Robin,

You’re very welcome, it was a chilled afternoon.
Thanks to you for the test drive of your beast... very trusting... a true gent!

Danni got bored of all the boys talk, however she did wake up when you gave me a demo of your AP brake set-up!

I’ve learnt loads... only 2-weeks to go now.

Speak to you soon... Hotrod.
