I had a demo as a courtesy car when my r32 was in for warranty work.Feel a quick car loads of torque, perhaps to much.In first and second the front wheels just give up the ghost even in the dry.Mind you thats with a heavy right foot,The one i drove had a "wet weather button" which decreases the torque. Was a nice thing though i have seen a few near where i live with optional alloys on them. They look nice.
But its a diesel i,m a petrol man all day long, but if you do a lot of miles fair play to you.Mind you if your thinking of a new one you can pick up a GTI for the same money now.

Why have Hamburger when you can have steak?

Having driven one recently I was actually impressed by the torque and speed of it, from the outside it was lovely too.....however.....sorry imho the inside was about as appealling as a skip...cant believe that there is no split a/c and arm rest etc....Great economy though, but from the inside its just the same, or less than many, other standard golfs out there.

Not sure where you are located mate however....Arnold Clark in Glasgow had a lovely silver 170BHP on a 57 plate with 8,000 miles...sticker price was £15,998, I asked it to come down to £15,500, ....not unreasonable I think given that it was the end of the month and the new registrations were just due out...they wouldnt move at all, so I walked.  The Arnold Clark in Dundee Balfield had a dsg with cd (but no flappy paddles) for £16.7k again they wouldnt come down to £16,200.....£16,500 being their best price. Just so, you know.  PS DO NOT BUY the black one at Arnold Clark in Springburn Glasgow, it had about 19k miles on the clock, I hear that some half wit in the garage took it out for the weekend and trashed the gear box...he apparently ran over something and ripped it out...BE WARNED.

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

Had a Passat with the 170 TDI engine in it for a weekend. Did a 600 mile motorway run and couldnt get more than 38mpg out of it. And obviously the Passats a bit heavier but given there was only two of us in the car, driving at night with little traffic and fairly steadily at just a nudge over 70 I think its a fairly representative figure for the engine.

So if its fuel economy thats swinging your decision I wouldn't let it unless your doing Star Trek mileage.

Forget fuel ecomany, ive had a passat 170 dsg since november, bought it foolishly because i wanted to better my fuel consumption. im now buying another New GTi this week. you are foolish if you get the TDi. Trust me, you'd wish you hadnt.Car performance is in a different league.
My mistake has cost me £5000 from trading up, spec'ing, and buying another GTi in a space of a few months.
GET THE GTi
