horrid squealing from steering
« on: 20 February 2008, 20:42 »
When parking the car today there was a horrid squealing noise coming from the power steering, it only happened when it was on full lock. The car has no other steering issues which I,m aware of. Any ideas would be appreciated as it was a very nasty noise!

Cheers Chris

this is normal as far as im aware on any car that has power steering to make some noise on full lock, also in some car manuals (our seat people carrier) is says not to leave it in full lock for over 10 seconds........ :/

true because it burns the fluid and recks the pump and rack-due to it getting hotter

cheers for replies, I spoke to my local garage today and he said it was a normal noise from the power steering, and not to worry. I can get over concerned about any usual sounds coming from the car, but better to be safe than sorry I guess.

Horrid squealing! No pig in there?

Umm might be worth checking the drive belt, as it might be slipping on full load.

Its a bit of scare mongering too, im pretty sure more than 10secs on full lock will be ok, just dont go around 2 many roundabouts !! :P

get your belt checked like len suggests

mine was slipping, especially in the wet - garage tightened it up all OK

no need for a new belt
