Whats the difference between 195 and 205?
« on: 20 February 2008, 15:18 »
I took of my front wheeels to check my abs sensors to get the right one tomo, and my front tyres on the inside are worn through the rubber!!!! So tomo im going to get 2 new tyres fitted aswell as fix just about everything else....

When i look at the tyres they are 205/50/15 But on kwik fit online when i enter my numberplate it brings up 195/50/15.

So whats the difference, the wheels im lookin at getting a "Goodyear Eagle F1's", My friend had them and rates them well, and they come in 195's not 205's

So what is the difference between 195 and 205?

Cheers for any info.

The difference is 10mm in width. so you have more grip (rubber on the road). If your wheels are the ones pictured on your sig. The size you need is 205/50/15 V rated. And don't go to kwik fit as they will charge you a bomb!

I'm using Michelin pilot exalto. they are the dogs bollocks £75 a corner.

Then why does it say that they are 195s?

Has anyone fitted 195s?

Im just wondering why it quotes different wheels........

It might say theyr 195 because all early mk3s have 195's even the 1st vr6's with the cross spoke bbs's...

My mums L reg 8v have the original 195/50 R15s wheels on them.....

I think the longbeach wheels like raylee came in about 1995, which most of them seem to be 205's.

Mine are 205/45 R16 because they are the anniversary rims but if kwikfit say 195.. its probably just because the old mk3s were.

PS. Even the F1 autocentres are more reasonable than quickfit... Ive got a 195/50 r15 for another car there before for under 50 quid (P6000)!

Also...

My brother got 2 x Eagle f1's for his mk2 16v 195/50/r15 for 90 quid form a local place!

If they're the stock wheels it should say in your car manual what tyres fit them.

What's the wheel width; 6.5J? 7J?

Yes they will fit but you'll have different sized tyres on the front than on the back. If it's got 205's on now then fit 205's and walk away from Kwick Krap as they'll only rip you off and scuff up your rims.

mine has 195's on, they are a hell of alot better than the horrid baloon looking 205's  , had 205s on the front before (spare set of rims) and noticed no difference, the sidewall is more narrow on the 195..  alot cheeper too than 205's

my car is a 1993 GTI

the wider the tyre the more grip -more grip is always better what ever the tyre looks like.
