Battery Drain Problem
« on: 20 February 2008, 13:01 »
Wondering if you fellow GTi'ers will beable to help me out on this problem.

I have a R reg 97 Golf GTi 8v....

I have checked the alt and its pumping 14.4 volts steady, with no issues when running, just when i leave the car for around 3-4 days and the thing won't start, i just get the sweet sounds of relays banging each other.....

If I disconnect the battery for this time and reconnect a week later it starts no problem.

Checked the drain with an amp meter, and its pulling nearlly 300mah constant with doors closed etc etc, is this normal??? To run the alarm and stuff like that? tried pulling the plug on the ALT and other things, but its still pulling current.....

I have replaced the battery as well, but im still having the same problem...

Any ideas?

Thankyou for your reply!

I tried disconnecting my amps, but still no joy on that.... Thanks for the suggestion.

Im thinking it maybe my alarm or something like that.... I'm at a complete loss too the cause.

Ive had a couple of mechanics look at it and they can not find any fault.

Im starting to think its time for a proper Auto Electrician.

Could anyone recommend one in the Southeast London Area.

Thanks again.

Tristan

What ive done in the past is do the amp drain test with the ameter like you did before.
Then start disconnecting electrical  components till the you find the one dragging the current .
It cam be a little long winded but I have found it to work perfect .
