Ebay coilovers: anyone on here run them?
« on: 20 February 2008, 00:51 »
As the title asks, does anyone on here have a set of "ebay coilovers" (the 200 quid ones) fitted to their mk2?

Thanks

a mate had a set of the cheap supersprint coilovers and they werent bad, just very hard and the car jumped a bit over bumps if you know what i mean, they dont seem to be that well dampened, but if your on a perfectly smooth bit of road they are good!

I've got a cheaper set on my car. The ride is certainly stiff, and as above it does hop a little over bumps. If you drive long distance down motorways, expect to be literally bobbing out of your seat on bumps. The whole comfort is comprised in general when you lower it, especially if its down 70mm or so. I was going to get a second hand set of KW Var 2's from German eBay, but I just lost out on the auction at £270 IIRC - a real bargain!

But, I like it, I don't mind the bumpiness, the car looks cool as hell slammed, and its increased the handling 10 fold.

They feel good in the mk3's but in mk2's they are sh!te. maybe because the mk3 has more weight which dampens things

I have Supersprint on the Rallye, handles well and is pretty smooth on decent roads. But it is low and has a solid engine mouth so on rough roads it's not the best but hey, it's a go cart not a comfort car.
