sloppy gear stick.
« on: 02 April 2004, 21:10 »
Hi there. I've got a mk2 gti16v(91) and the gear stick feels a sloppy when it is in gear. The car has 126000 on the clock. Does anyone have any ideas? I think I need a selector repair kit but I am also thinking about buying a short shift kit, but I don't know which one is best. Any ideas?

If the gear lever is sloppy in gear then its probably as you say due to all the little bushes and unions on the gear linkage being worn.

Also sometimes the little ball at the bottom of the gear lever needs replacing but this normally shows itself by you getting reverse without having to push the lever down.

Whilst your at it get a weighted shift rod, the one from the caddy/MK3 golf is the one to use and it improves gear changes no end.
