Phone Prep (Bluetooth) on Ed 30
« on: 19 February 2008, 14:57 »
Now then chaps.. Need to pick your brains again..
When I ordered my Ed30, the one thing I was suprised about, was that there is no option on the list for Bluetooth phone prep.
Now with me being on the road all day, I have to obviously have 'Hands free', so is there a after market version that is intergrated (without having to get a Parrott Kit or similar)? Or can I have it Dealer fitted after I get the car like with Cruise control? If so how much?

BTW. I have ordered it with the Media Nav (which incidentally has a Phone button on it) and centre armrest, will that be any help?
Cheers, Ben.

you're are right, its a bummer no bluetooth on Golf's.

Anyway the media nav as you call it, is the RNS 510, which I retro fitted, a really great system.

There is a phone button, but this requires the purchase of the VW bluetooth module, some wiring and mucking around, but it is possible to retro fit, so it works with that phone button, however it wont be cheap, or covered by VWs warranty.

I have the Parrot Ck3100, which works perfectly with my RNS 510, never has any probs, and I believe some dealers will fit it for you.

theres a few threads on retro fitting bluetooth here:

good luck.

Cheers for the help mate.. I should be ok though. Even if I have to go with the Parrott.. As my mate is a Auto Electrician and does them all day long, so will have a word with him and see what he can do.
I had a play with the Sat Nav in a Ed30 today actually and you're not wrong, it is a awesome bit of kit. Especially with it being touch screen..

I intend to fit the bluetooth module when mine arrives.
Try and keep it as OEM as I can rather than add a parrot system etc.

This is what I fitted to my car:

Works a treat and uses the MFSW buttons and displays in Highline.  Quite easy to install if you are happy removing some internal panels.

The car did have the factory phone prep fitted when I bought it but VW are so slow with releasing cradles I went down the bluetooth route.

I fitted the OEM bluetooth as well. The guy who wrote the install guide supplies the kit.

It works really well, and now that I have it in I couldn't live without it. It's an easy enough install, and not as much trim as in guide needs to be removed. You have to do a bit of wire cutting/crimping if you don't get the extra optional wires/connectors from a VW dealer.
