just curious to see what peoples views are on both cars (have heard good and bad things about both engines )

mk3's only please...most of us already know that mk1's and mk2's are cool

vr6 if fuel economy dosent matter..the sound and the low down power is awesome!!
16v if you want more rev happy (top end power)...as fast as the vr6 without the noise or economy issues

yeah but the sound is addictive!!
i believe 28mpg is average for the vr and 32mpg is ave for the 16v...

The only MK3 Golf I would consider would be a VR6. The reason is the power and noise.

my 8v gives 36mpg (but down to 18mpg when giving it some and town driving)

Depends what you want.
A 16v is nearly as fast and is more economical.
The Vr6 sounds great but is thirsty and expensive if things go wrong!

The VR is a great drive, But ..........
