Gmax suspension?
« on: 17 February 2008, 18:33 »
alright guys i'm looking at lowering my mk2 1.3 and i've seen quite alot of gmax suspension parts, like lowering springs and dampers. i was just wondering if anybody has any experience of gmax and how good are they? the only reason i ask is that the price on some of the kits are real low and i'm not sure whether it's because they are crap or whether they are end of line stuff etc.

so what do people think? i cant afford anything expensive so i'm in a bit of a rut as many people advised that you get what you pay for, so are they worth it?

its this kind of stuff not necessarily these items but the same stuff just to fit a mk2:

I had a rover 200 with a 40mm full gmax kit... it was a very firm ride, but handled like it was on rails.

some people question the quality but i'd say they were very good for the money. i wouldnt buy unbranded ones.

I don't think a semi will give the same results

i think i'll be able to put up with a hard ride if it saves me enough dosh! i cant seem to find anything for a 1.3 though they all say excluding 1.1 1.3 16v g60. i take it theres 3 different fittings for mk2s the (g60 and 16v), the (1.6 1.8 and 8v gti), and the (1.1 and 1.3). does anyone know the modifications needed to fit any of the other springs/dampers??? aslo what is the actuall difference between the setups, do they use different style dampers, or fittings, what could be done to mine to upgrade to 16v setup??? sorry to be a pain but my front dampers are shot and the constant bouncing is getting anoying!

cheers

I think it's down to two things.

1) Weight. The GTI/G60 is heavier up front due to the bigger engine so therefore needs firmer spring rates up front.

2) Strut type. Some MKII's have sealed struts, others have dampers inserts.

I can see no reason why a kit listed for an 8v GTi shouldn't fit a 1.3.
