WATER IN BOOT(spare wheel well)
« on: 16 February 2008, 17:31 »
Any of you guys help me with this one?

Car keeps steaming up all the time.
Inner rear lights(ones on bootlid) getting condensation in them.

Whilst cleaning car today i find water in the f****ing spare wheel well!!
Any one aware of any leaking issues??
A trip to the dealer ASAP dont worry about that.
What concerns me is the battery is in the boot and lower than the wheelwell,so water could cause serious issues.

HELP!!
Chrissy

Sure is right hand rear corner. The boot floor is a lot higher than the GTI due to the rear diff and 4 wd system i,d say about the depth of a car battery shallower(if that makes sense).Guess due to the engine bay being pretty full theres no where else for it to go.
No wonder the r36 motor doesnt fit in

There was a feature the other night on 5th gear about second hand mk5 GTI's- reckoned they tend to have probs with the boot seals and rear lights meaning water can ingress!

As your car is still under warrantee get it booked in - but taking it to a VW dealer you're a braver man than i am

Seals etc seem ok.I will see what they say.Perhaps renew the rubber seal or something. It,l be one of them" we cant seem to find the problem sir" issues i can see it coming. Or weve checked it over sir, bring it back if it happens again! Had two other MK5,s GTI and another R32 and they seemed ok. although i dont suppose its something you would check unless you knew it was happening.

WONDER HOW MANY OF YOU GUYS GONNA CHECK THE BOOT FLOOR 2MOZ???LOL

Seems like this is a common problem with Golfs.

VW replaced the boot seal with Sealy's car :

I actually noticed a little condensation in the rear brake light (spoiler) last week, but didnt think anything of it. Better get out and check!!

I have looked in the boot a 100x and I still never noticed there is a battery in there :undecided:

JUST A QUICK UPDATE GUYS,

CAR INTO DEALERS TURNS OUT TO BE A MIS-FITTED VENT BELOW/BEHIND THE OFF SIDE REAR LENS!
BACK BUMPER OFF LENS OUT BOOT SEALS ETC OFF, TURNED INTO A FULL DAY JOB.

Anyway a result and they replaced the nearside mirror indicator repeated cos it had condensation in it.

Good result ayway.
Chris.
