revo revisited
« on: 01 April 2004, 18:22 »
ive just come back from revo up in daventry. i had allready had a revo re-map but was not happy with it as it was only putting out 189bhp and 209lb/ft.and after speaking to tophuh and finding out that with the same set up he was getting 208/245, i thuoght i should speak to revo. they said that tophuh had a newer ecu even though it was a 150bhp nbdw as is mine. but they had some new software and if i wanted to i could come up and try it. after the download i went along to stealth's rr and put it on the dyno the result was much better with bhp of 199 and torque at 236. an increase of 10bhp and more important 27lb/ft. ;D so a big thanks to goerge at revo and vince at stealth.also i have fitted a r32 front bumper to cover the intercooler so ill post new pic's soon....

120 mile ride home most of it motorway though. but pulled much harder through the gears. even in 5th it pushes you into the seat. i was a bit noughty on way home on a empty streach of m/way put me foot down and saw 140mph. not quite the 185mph i saw on my R1 but still good fun ;D. if any police are reading this it was my wife driving so send her the ticket!!!

Nice result mate, I had heard mention of the series II software (I think that's what they called it ?) which I assume is what they gave you, all that torque really does make a difference doesn't it !
I'm about to leave engine mods for a while (as I'm happy with it now and don't want to add anything that might not agree with the revo!) and smarten up the looks (still standard bar the exhaust) but once that's done I'll be under the bonnet again. What are your plans next ? Cold air intake maybe ?

p.s I hope you didn't blast up the A45 to get home, there's cameras hidden behind roadsigns, cheeky tw@ts !

Starry, are these remaps only for use with additional charge cooling (notice you have a FMIC).  What are the boost levels increased to?

I've not got a gti (yet), so can you tell me where the stock intercooler sits, is it in the air flow and does it have a big core or surface area (i.e. does it cool well).

I come from vaux turbo background where standard intercoolers are a waste of space.

Stock SMIC sits behind the wing on the drivers side.

i have the car looking the way i like, pretty much, just the side skirts and rear valance to sort out.(post new pic's soon).also dave g these re-maps are desinged for a standard set up the fmic will only help out in the summer if it ever happens.as for the boost levels i think its running 1.2bar but not sure. i think i could up the boost with the intercooler but then i would have to get a custom re-map and not a revo unless you have a dbw.. but this will do 4 now as im looking to upgared to turbo in the summer.....

I'm surprised the stock turbo can manage 1.2bar unless of course this is the overboost figure which is only momentarily held (thought the turbo's in these cars were quite small units designed to spool up quick but deliver low boost levels).

18psi (i.e. 1.2bar) is quite high for the standard side mount intercooler - especially in the summer, unless the compression ratio on these cars is especially low.

I've seen the effects of high charge temps on a car and it ain't pretty (piston meltdown).   Wouldn't want to run *that* risk.

The FMIC is ALWAYS a good option.

i've fitted a boost gauge and if i put my foot down steadly in 4th the boost rises to 1.2bar then tails off. if i put my foot down in 4th quickly and dont let it build up then it will shoot up to aroud1.8/2.0bar before going back down to 1.2bar. but it will only holds about 0.6bar right at the top of the rev range. im not to sure how you take the reading as it all depends how you use the go peddel...

wide open throttle from low revs, in 4th gear (higher gear will hold the overboost longer) and then keeping your foot on the floor, what are your readings?

0.6 bar by the time you get to high rev's is no surprise.  You'd need a hybrid turbo to maintain boost all the way to red line.
