Putting some new discs on and wandered about the grease coating they have on when new. I know you need to clean this off but with what, some meths or something?
MK3 Golf GTI 16V, P/1997, 3 DR, 98000k, A/C, Elec/W/S/M, dragon green metalic, Koni shocks & springs, lowered 30mm, 17" Wolfrace Enigma wheels, Milltek exhaust system.

You can use brake cleaner or gas, let em dry and put em on.

methalated spirit! gets it off as pure alcohol!
this coating stops the discs going rusty.... it must be removed otherwise you will contaminate the pads!
and reduce friction!
