A guy from Kazakhstan, who has Mk5 R32 HGP as well as Mitsu EvoVIII MR and Subaru Impreza STi PPP said the following:

R32 - 440ps, 585Nm, DSG.

0-62mph: 4.5 sek (lower than promised, probably due to lower quality petrol used), max achieved - 300kmh.

For the quartermile the car is not so good, because of the DSG. Evo with its carbon clutch takes the lead of approx 30 meters, Golf catches up in second gear, passes, and comes first to the finish line.

The car is quite ok in turns.

It starts to get unsettled after 260kmh because of the aerodynamics. After 1.5 years of active (sometimes brutal) driving nothing broke down. The only problem is that cooling system is insufficient in hot weather. On the other hand, he had to constantly change clutch and gearbox on Mitsu and Subaru, and on Subaru he had to change the engine as well.

Petrol consumption: 11 - 18 litres in city, 9-16 litres on highway.

To be fair that golf is overpriced.. but may just tempt someone who is not quite in the know. Like i said you could pick up an used r32 for 20k add a bi-turbo for 10k and you have got a 550bhp supercar slayer for 30k approx... which would make a RS6 look like a pram. All hypothetically speaking ofcourse...

I wouldnt do it.. but i guess the temptation is there to have a car that would make others look a little stupid when they have paid much more for their cars.

The difference between the Scooby/Evos is that you just wouldnt expect it from a golf.... where as a Scooby or Evo would probably be plastered with stickers and go faster stripes etc. The Golf still has the respect value in my opinion.. where as the others dont, and are just exactly what they are.. a fast car. :nerd:

please, 10k for biturbo, aha...
What about transmission? Don't tell me it does not need work with 550 eager horsies ripping it apart.
And if you got DSG you have to make some work on it, as it has 400Nm limit.
Then you have cooling issues as well.
Then you definitely need breaks.
Then you need an exhaust because you do not want you turbos to melt (On HGP Golf there is a valve that opens up at higher revs and releases some of the exhaust gases directly into atmosphere just to get the pressure down).
Manual my child.... the way its meant to be

ok so add another 5k if we are being specific... the point is, its still cheaper than buying a Porsche turboo as you compared it to.

But lets not kidd anyone.. We would all like one, but would we pay 40k for it, probably not. Like Manu said it would be much more appreciated if you did it yourself step by step.

Has to be the R32 for me.  It just feels far more special than an ed30 in my opinion.

WIth respect to the modded R32...I don't think many Evo enthusiasts would be trembling in their shoes to be honest.  I agree the jap cars look rubbish but the Evo VIII MR and IX only have to be tickled to produce completely reliable 400-450 bhp/ >400 lb ft cars for around 3-4k with simply bolt-on parts.  If one spent 10-15k on an Evo, the kind of figures you're looking at are 650-750 bhp from blown forged/stroked lumps.  These are also really solidly reliable as the 4G63 is just a bullet proof engine.
Current:

'07 BMW 120d SE - Sapphire black

I would imagine the Evo to be pretty tough to use as an everyday car... where as I would hope the golf would be a little better... :nerd:

Better in what way?  If you mean the Evo is not subtle enough/too loud to be used every day, I agree in terms of the very highly modded 600+ bhp cars which can also suffer from significant turbo lag.  The less extensively modded Evos (such as the one I had with 405bhp/380 lb ft) are pretty similar to stock in terms of ease of use.  I found it fine to drive daily.

The main reasons not to have an Evo are the looks and the absolutely attrocious interior quality in my opinion.  Other than that they are phenomenally good cars and just as driveable every day as anything else.

Just exactly what you mentioned..  cabin quality, road noise, and simply levels of comfort for passengers  I would imagine. I would love to have a EVo for a blast on a weekend, but come moday morning, I want my R32 back!! Cant imagine the Evo being much fun for long motorway journeys either. I wouldnt bother with the Scooby... although a great peice of kit for the track... I just couldnt stand the shame of driving one on the roads. Sorry.

how do you mean? He bought a new golf and agreed directly with HGP to have the golf "fixed" right away.

for sure it would be cheaper
and also it is fun to surprise sportcar drivers with a sleeper Golf (there is that exhaust sound, but it is still a Golf)

Im not a fan of the r32 mkv................the mkIV was truly stupenous like as if vw had given the engineers free regin.the v6 sound so memorable.
i drove the r32 mkv in listers vw much to the dread of the sales man! ha ha.
dont worry i still walked out with a golf gti mkv which put much more of a smile on my face, the way is boost is incredible.

i think i need a ed30!
