Quaife for DSG!

There's no doubt in my mind that as cars develop more power from the driving wheels for the ECU to manage, there's more need for ATB's to manage potential wheelspin/grip and improve handling. More performance cars would benefit from having such devices as standard but I guess it's all down to final cost and not everyone wanting to drive fast (but safely within the road conditions). In fact, there's an increasing number of idiots out there who want us all to drive at 40 mph everywhere outside the limited speed zones because they believe it will save the planet! The planet will be fine and manage as it always has done before mankind.

Thanks for the useful information.  I recently had a ride in my friends car, to which he had fitted an ATB lsd (whether it was the quaife one i'm not sure) - When driving normally, the ride doesn't feel jerky or choppy at all, and you wouldn't suspect there's an lsd fitted.  Its only when you go round a corner - very composed and smooth around a fast long bend, but you could feel the lsd working to pull the car into the bend.  Would be very curious to see how it would transform the gti

Let us know if/when you plan to have the lsd fitted, would be interested to read your before and after comparison

An ATB lsd does sound very attractive and your recent ride experience confirms what I've heard so far. Btw, what was the car?

I must admit that I'd love to get a Quaife ATB and I've got every confidence in both the product and Jim's mechanic skills, but I sometimes ask myself whether I may be suffering from OCMD (Obsessive Compulsive Modding Disorder)!! I see the symptoms in Hurdy too. I don't really need such a mod, I'm not trying to do competitive lap times, or even road racing. BUT....

Rest assured that if I do it, I'll definitely post all about it. If Captain Sensible gets too irritating I'll have to lock him in the garden shed again. If I had listened to him I'd be driving a Mk5 Golf TDI DSG, which is what I originally ordered.

That Quaife diff keeps calling to me in the middle of the night It doesn't help that I got hold of their catalogue at the Autosport show either
I think I'd be drawn to Stattler  to fit one as they are local to me here in Sheffield and from what I've been hearing they have a really good rep when it comes to the "oily" bits. A bit like RR, I will hold off until later on in my ownership to have one fitted, but until then I have plenty of other mods to go at to keep me going

The car was a modded honda civic which shouldn't be underestimated (one with 200bhp, which weighs less than a tonne).  You definately made the right decision getting the gti!  Think you would remain captain sensible if you got the diesel and you would miss out on all the lovely mods on your car

If I add up all the mods I have and are on order they add up to an awful lot.

Add to those the following:-

Dymag Carbonfibre and alloy wheels
Uprating suspension
Quaife LSD

you could add another £7k

It is amazing how many mods you can do to the car - one step at a time i suppose 

....It's definitely best to mod one step at a time and also to leave the remap until after some of the hardware mods. That way, you get to experience and learn what each mod does to your ride. And also in the extremely unlikely event you get a problem (having not carefully chosen your mods), you can at least isolate it and solve it more easily. It's so much more enjoyable to bring a girlie on sloooowly, lads! - Take this advice from an older stag!
