16 valve clocks in a 88 gti 8 valve
« on: 13 February 2008, 18:50 »
pretty simple this I just want to know weather I can install 16 valve clocks into my 8 valve gti, the clocks I have now have two plugs and I know that the valvers are twin so will it be a case of plug in and there you go?

i have a pb engined gti and think my clocks are from a 16v as they are 160 mph and 7000rpm so if yours is a pb engined model they should work

The twin and single plug difference depends on the year. Can't remember which though! If the two cars are similar age, ie. both pre or both post 90, then it should work..... I give no guarantees though   Have a search, this is covered is detail somewhere.

yeah as said just make sure it has same number of plugs as your old set.  speedo and rev counter will read properly, but the redline will be 1k too high!

would it still work correctly if you just fitted the 160mph dash speedo into the 8v housing?

Yes, just make sure you have the right speedo drive cog in the gear box.  If you currently have 120 clocks then 160 should drop straight in, if you have 140 ones you will need a different drive.

Recently I found that the speedo gear has nothing to do with the speedo, its actually down to the gearbox you have fitted to your car, have a read of the speedo/ring & pinion gear section on brokes site:
