It aint supposed to sound like that.....
« on: 12 February 2008, 17:51 »
Basically this is bugging the hell out of me...  and tis going to be sooo hard to explain!   My car on idle has a dodgy exhaust noise, kind of sounds like pinking but pretty sure it isnt. It just doesnt sound right, it doesnt sound as "tight" as it should be, its not from the rear more like manifold kind of area. And when driving along and giving it more gas(mostly in a lower gear) it sounds awful. It has a new exhaust and tis not the manifold heat shield as i ripped that off!!     This is most probably a shot in the dark but hey!

oh forgot to mention its a '91 2.0 8v

maybe its bowing from one of the joints? get it in the air and start it up, you should be aable to see if its leaking easy enough

Could be the manifold blowing where it joins the head, thats next on my list to sort double gaskets and new studs and nuts :)

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

Not all new exhaust systems are as perfect as they should be! The noise could be coming from loose internals in one of the boxes. Also check that the down pipe is not touching any components on its down and backward sweep (due to faulty fitting).
I have had both these problems in the past, and the noise produced is far in excess
of the cause.
