Fibre Glass Parts
« on: 12 February 2008, 10:45 »
Guys, am considering a Anniversary front Valance, or possibly if I can stretch to it, an R32 one.

Are the fibre glass ones available on ebay etc a waste of time?

i.e.:

What are the genuine OEM ones made from?

Also, since I have headlamp washers, would I only be able to get an OEM R32 front valance, as the non genuine ones dont seem to have the cut-outs for the the washer jets?

What would you go for?  R32 of 25th Anni?

the copy ones generally don't match up properly and don't colour match properly due to the material.

the OEM ones should be ABS

regarding the R32 bumper, you could get either as you can always cut out the wholes for the washer jets, i think ash did that on his.

personally if i had to choose i'd go for the anniversary, although i think a matched standard valance can look as good.

Cheers for that Ridge.

Im not too sure about cutting the holes for the jets - perhaps its easier than it sounds, but I would want a neat and accurate job.

As for going to colour coded, my car is black, so the standard valance does not exactly stand out anyway.  I saw the Anniversary valance on one the other day and it looked good, and is clearly much cheaper than the R32.

Why would you go for the Anni over the R32?

just personal preference, i like the subtle look of the anni one.

i really like this one

except it wont fit on the TDI 150

as long as the hole was smaller that the caps and big enough for the jet no one would know, as the caps are going to cover up and dodgy cuts and the actual pipes are quite small.

That does look good, shame there is not a bigger picture showing the full item, or even it fitted to a car.  Cheap as chips too.

the 150 is unique as far as i know, the valance is the "same" as the V6 except the passenger side indent (on the valance) is open, which connects to a scope which feeds the air box.

as far as i know all the other MK4's feed the air box though the bumper inserts

So does that not mean that you could indeed buy this valance, and re-route the air feed to suit?
