Steam/Mist from engine bay/front?
« on: 11 February 2008, 20:09 »
First post here, certainly not my last me thinks ;) having no joy on getting a response on uk-mkivs so thought i'd try over here lol

"Only had my ed30 for about a month but this morning (been a cold, frosty and foggy one) there was quite a bit of steam coming from the front (have had a few cold ones since i had it but haven't had this occur). It was doing it as well before setting off home just there waiting for the windscreen to de-mist. I opened the bonnet but couldnt see anywhere obvious it was coming from.

Running temps are normal, coolant level is normal, only thing i can think of is condensation on the radiator/cold air hitting it? I washed it on saturday and it hadn't been driven until this morning, could it be possible the water was still lying in the engine bay that got through the front? (Its kept in a garage)

Just a bit concerned it may be coming from somewhere it shouldn't thats all, anyone else noticed this?"

Hi Sweeney, welcome to the forum

I've had it late last year when I cleaned under the bonnet. Some paper mush (I work in a papermaking mill) managed to find it's way into the engine bay and so I gave it a clear out. On start up I had what looked like steam coming out from under the bonnet and front grille. I left the engine running for about 10 minutes (had a play with the head unit) and it cleared up. It did look quite funky on a cold clear day, but it soon stopped and I took it as part of the drying off process. Maybe the fact that you left it a while gave you cause for concern. Unless it re-occurs I wouldn't worry about it. If it does (which I doubt) then get it back to the dealers for the once over :nerd:
