deffo go for 195 50's look alot better than 55's and less worble on cornering. you wont notice the difference in the too.

pearsonaly i like 45's just look alot better and dont make the wheels look like doughnuts .and im lowered .agree its abit harsh but its my daily and i have alot off speed humps .i cope just makes me go slow over them alot slower better for my fillings and my car

185 55 and 195 50s have pretty much identical sized sidewall, 50 & 55 dont refer to the size in mm, its a percentage of the width ;)

Both are listed as std fit for MK2s, 195/45s have a lower profile which is handy for tucking under arches if you lower the car and/or have low offset wheels.  This will give a slightly harsher ride due to the smaller sidewall.

I went for 185 55 in the end, which is stock. Saved me a bit of money as I only needed 2. I'll probably never lower the car so not much point going for a much lower profile. The 185 55s still look quite good.

To look up tyre presures I checked the car manual and actually found they list what tyres are needed and they state 185 55 for 6J and 195 50 for 6.5J, and mine are 6J so I'm happy with that.

Cheers all. Off in a bit to get wheel alignment sorted.

Just got back having had my job interview today. Made a day of it and glad of it. That has to be the best drive I've had in my Golf. Not taken it on a long journey before and it just seemed to love it. Reminds me why I love MK2 Golfs so much. Such a pleasant drive. Remind me of this if I ever go through a bad patch and want to sell it...
