Oil pressure
« on: 10 February 2008, 17:45 »
Hi all im having abit of a bad day ive got a 1998 20v golf 1.8t and yesterday when I was out on a run the oil light come on I drove home anyways thinking oil maybe slightly low  20 miles  now the light is always on and the is plenty of oil in there.

I read the manual now I know its an oil pressure, so my question is can this be caused by the oil pressure switch being faulty? if so where do I find it? and how much are new ones?

I know the oil isnt going around correctly as the top end is dry  what else could cause this?

Oil pump? You should never drive with the oil light on

Hi,
If like you say the top end looks dry, then i doubt it will be your switch, but more likely to be either your oil pump or the chain that drives it has broken.
If you drove it for 20 miles with no oil pressure, you may have caused damage to your cam and crank bearings?
Hope you get it sorted. the oil pressure switch is on the oil filter housing b.t.w.
Jochen.

Try the oil pick up in the sump mine got clogged up n brought the oil light/pressure warning up it cost about a tenner for the part then gasket seal/oil/oil filter and has been fine since.

good luck with it
