« on: 09 February 2008, 16:30 »
hi all just bought a gti 8v and ive just noticed after a few days of having it that the abs light does not come on.im guessing that the bulb has gone or been taken out
the breaks seem ok they work fine ect.if its not got a bulb in will be checking later and the abs light comes on will the chances be its a sensor fault?if so is it an expensive part/parts to get.any advice will be much appreciated thank you.

1. When you start the car does it go on an off. If not. Bulb is broken or taken out SO......

2. Find a straight section of road thats quiet, drive at 40mph and slam the brakes on, if you skid and the pedal doesnt vibrate, someone has taken the bulb out or broken it, as the abs is not working.

(this is commen, as they get faults all the time, so peopel cheat to sell it)

Probably only a broken sensor to fix IF its broken, about £17 for a sensor from GSF online.

 Hope that helps, any queiries just ask

Does your handbrake warning light stay on? Infact, does you handbrake warning light even come on when the handbrake is applied?

This would mean a pump or multiple fault with your abs.

If not you can test it now as i said, but just breaking hard and seeing if it kicks in.

If not, use the airbag bulb to test the abs light?

and remember the abs fitted to pre 96 cars is prehistoric and some skidding is normal! mine slides when wet/icy and the abs works but not like more modern systems...
oh mines not faulty as its being fully tested and given the all clear?
