'lights on' buzzer
« on: 31 March 2004, 14:35 »
had lights on when was out early this morning, and when i got out the car the 'buzzer' that normally sounds when you leave lights on/key out drivers door open didnt buzz!!!!!!, fooked about trying to lock unlock car a few times (which it would lock with door open which never normally did) im assuming there some kind of switch in the door on the locking/closing mechanism that operates this?? ive got it to work now so its an intermitant fault, but with out it im worried wifey will leave lights on at some point and mr flat battery here we come!!,,

any one else had this prob on a mk4?? gonna take door panel off tomorrow and investigate...

Gaz ???

gaz, i think the switch for the buzzer runs off the same circuit as the passenger light, so i would leave that on "door open" and have a poke. i don't think the switch is actually in the door panel, its more likely to be in the door frame near the hinges end or near the door lock end.

gaz i had a look,

the switch is in the lock mechanism, i don't know about your car but mine has red lights on the bottom of the doors, if you push the lock in it goes off. the one for the lights warning buzzer works off that one too.

there are two torx head screws holding it on, pull them off and the wiring is in there. if you can't find it i can send you a pic.

ello peeps. Id also love to know how to solve that light switch problem cos mine is not working and also the car thinks the doors constantly open i.e. immobiliser wont engage. The switch is in the lock but is there an easy way to solve? If you have pics that'd be great. CHEERS!

Does the buzzer 'not buzz' if either front door is opened with the lights on ? if so then you're unlikely to have two faulty door mechanisms and your problems lies elsewhere. kind regards, yt.

my buzzer (when working lol) only works from the drivers door, ive never come across a car yet thats buzzer works off both doors, the prob is deffo with my switch and its intermitant so will clean the switch when i get chance!....

according to my haynes manual it only works off the drivers door. i can confirm that cos the buzzer doesn't work with the passenger door open.

although the courtesy lights work with either door.
