People i need help!
« on: 09 February 2008, 11:18 »
I have a similar problem to scooterist007 but i was wondering if it was still the hall sender relay!

I have a 95 2.0 gti 8v that for some reason (hot or cold) sometimes doesnt want to start. The engine turns over fine but if i release the accelerator the engine dies.I have to keep the revs on for a couple of minutes then it ticks over on its own but then when i try to drive off there is hardly any power until it reaches 3000 revs then the power kicks in.Its really getting on my nerves because sometimes it runs like a dream. Can anyone help me?

Could be a number of things. Check the basics first like cleaning out the breather hoses, throttle body air intake sensors before looking to replace things like ecu relays, fuel pump relays, crank sensors. Also check the vac hoses for damage/holes

If after cleaning out the hoses and cleaning all the air intake parts it's still playing up then i'd spend 50 quid and give it a proper mk3 service. New ECU relay, new fuel pump relay, new coolant temp sensor, new vac hoses, new ignition leads, new spark plugs, new rotor arm and dizzy cap. Do you have any dioagnostic tools? COuld be worth scanning to see if the crankshaft sensor has gone too
