Headlight removal. . .
« on: 09 February 2008, 10:36 »
I know this thread is pathetic, trust me I know! Just getting some time to strip my new golf down, only, Last night i was prizing the grill out (it was glued in!) which was fair enough because ive not seen a good fitting badgeless grill yet, however, after getting the clips out the top two slats snapped off, due to being glued together (Time for a new grill!) So without causing anymore damage to potentially bodged parts how do i get the grill off and how do i take the head lights out, i can only see two self tapping screws that hold the headlight in, one on top, one on the front just masked by the grill, I imagine there must be two screws or clips holding the bottom of the grill just beneath each headlight but if i pull it too hard the whole thing will probably fall to bits! Cheers guys!

if you have already broke the grill then it dont matter if it breaks anymore does it??

anyhow, theirs is a clip under each headlight for the grill, its located towards each edge (wing side) of the headlight, can be a real pain to remove these, or at least one of them out of the 2,  but i use a thin flat bladed screwdriver, if you are clever you can also access the clips from inside the engine bay buy u gotta be pretty flexible with your hands to do this hahah

i dont know what quality your grill is and all what i do applies to the OE grill, iv never broke mine, may be different with these cheep de badged affairs tho so just go real easy and take your time..

the headlights are held with 3 bolts, 2 at the top and one at the bottom behind the grill, very simple to remove..

Perfect, I ws guessing that would be the case, but i didn't know wether it was gonna be a clip or a screw, just like one of the clips the holds the middle of the grill to the bumper is it? Kind of like. . . Half an arrow with the head clipping behind the edge of the bumper? Cheers for the info mate.

Break the grill by all means but try not to break the black plastic grill support that is behind all the grill sections. They're not cheap from VW lol
