Mk3 GTI 8v Equipment

New to VW and going to look at a 3door Black MK3 Golf GTi 8v on a P reg tomorrow night, 90k full service history and bodywork is immaculate.

Just wondered if anybody has any tips on what equipment it has a/c e/w etc and also what I should be looking to pay price wise so I can haggle if I need to.

Not sure, but I don't think they have AC.  Could be wrong tho.

Check all electric windows work.  Fully up and down.  These are common to go. 

Check that the ABS light comes on when you start up, then off a few seconds later.  This light is to the right of the steering wheel. If this doesn't happen, its an Mot failure I think.

Make sure timing belt has been done.  On 90k I presume it will have been.

Take it for a good drive, check usual things.  Noises etc when hard steering.  I always check reverse works too, something you might not think about.

Thanks for the pointers have been looking on here and on the web for some list of the spec of the 8v but cant seem to find any.

Dont think it has a/c to be honest but just wondered as some do if I remember correctly.

Whats about price wise, what should I be epecting to pay with the spec above.

Well, price wise Im not the best to ask.  Around £1500.  Mabye a little more if its imaculate.

Mabye best to get a few more views etc on things to look for, and price.

We have a P reg, it has A/C.  I think it was standard from N onwards.

As per before, check obvious things really.  They're really very solid cars and good for high mileage.  My brothers has about 160k on it, runs like a dream.

Gearboxes are very common on them, put it in reverse and check there is no knocking etc.

I have an 8v on P and it has no a/c. So i think that some do and some don't. going over whats been said above tho realy, check the leccy windows work as my drivers side has recently packed in. On price, i paid £2000 about 8 months ago for mine. 3 dr and black, so just the one i was looking for with full vw service history (also just had a full service done that month), immaculate inside and out, 85k with the BBS vr6 alloys and vr6 front splitter but i think they came standard on this year? correction coming if i am wrong.

a/c is an optional extra on most cars nothin is free

abs
airbags
fogs

Pretty much everything except leather and heated seats.

central locking

front fogs
and deep VAG splitter (added by myself)
and dealer optional extra hella twin headlights (added by myself)

think thats about it

they pretty much are kitted out with more mod cons that most french cars.
