Colour Coding the GTI Spoiler....
« on: 07 February 2008, 14:53 »
The rear valance is all black plastic on the stock GTI (not Ed30) and I can now confirm that the GTI's spoiler+exhaust trim is one piece.

According to what colour your GTI is, many owners don't like all that Ford Ka-style black plastic and have painted the upper part - Called the "spoiler" by VW. The lower part is correctly called the "tail pipe trim" and everyone leaves it black. To paint the upper part most people sand it down and use a plasticiser with the paint to give some flex.

If you want to fit an aftermarket exhaust trim OSIR offer a carbonfibre one which is stuck with appropriate adhesive. My CF front mask is stuck on and it stays on!! OSIR's sole European distributor is the TTshop 01234 853 225 (Justin/Dave). Justin is now particularly clued up on various Mk5 bum treatments .

I haven't asked him yet if the OSIR exhaust trim will fit onto a one-piece Ed30 rear.

I hope this helps those who have been asking in a couple of other threads.

....Yes, the R32 exhaust trim is detachable and OSIR currently offer these 2 replacement CF parts:

My understanding from talking to Justin at the TTshop is that Riso (Mr OSIR) can custom make.

Also, you can buy just the VW R32 spoiler without the VW R32 exhaust trim if you want - I have one on order.

The ed30 lower spoiler part of the rear bumper is the same shape as the GTI. The only bit different is the tailpipe surround which deatches. Local pub's landlord has a GTI and gratefully let me look at mine and his together. This is good news as it means that the DTM CF piece I have ordered should fit straight on

Hurdy, I was discussing your car with Justin today and we both think that silver CF with silver paint is going to look stunning and also very subtle.

Justin thinks it will look good if all the top bonnet is exposed as CF but I think it will look better with just the centre section - Like this pic but wrong colour shown:

Cheers RR.

That CF bonnet would look the nuts on your car with the red CF centre and the outers painted red too.
I wonder how much they would charge for spraying mine?

....I did consider it but decided the red CF looks too 'brown' and also the red CF wouldn't look quite right with my black CF mask anf VW badge.

You do know that my vented bonnet is painted CF don't you?

My understanding from talking to Justin at the TTshop is that Riso (Mr OSIR) can custom make.

So OSIR will custom make a valance that fits onto an R32 spoiler to suit a standard GTI exhaust config?

As standard (not custom made), the GTI CF valance WONT fit onto the R32 spoiler?
