I am serioulsy F****d off.
I just took my car if for a service with a VW dealer as they had sent me a fixed price full service voucher. And guess what……….
Just had a phone call from them to say that my car is about to die!!!!
It’s a mark 4 GTTDI 150bhp, known the car since new,never raced nor rallied 40 k on a 53 plate, and apperntly it needs.
A new EGR vaulve at £224.44.
An air con service as its not working appaerntly £99.00 (seems fine to me)
The car is pulling slightly to the left they want £200 quid to re-align my wheels.
Cam belt (which I knew about and get at an acredidted servicer for £235) VW charge £420, when I told VW I could get it £200 quid cheper, he rang the other place and said “ahhhh the price doesn’t include a water pump” is the water pump necisary with the cam belt change?
The front doors are slightly lose they want £20 to re-tighted these. I went to halfords and bought a star type bolt but couldn’t fit this in the door hinge to tighten this, doe snay one have any ideas?
And also £520 for a headlamp control module!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone else think I am being shafted here? How can the car need all of this work after  40, 000 miles?
To add salt into the wound, my trip computer is stuck in the total journey setting (2) I cant get it into the single journey setting (1)  this was previosuly working when I first got the car,  I asked VW to have a look at it, and the response was (although its stuck in setting 2) was it only has one setting, your car doesn’t come with a per jouney setting.???? WTF
Does any one have any ideas? I was going to send the worklist over to the acredited dealer to see what they say, but ultimatly for me to have a second opinion its going to cost me £100 for an insepction.

watch the sump ask guy he went over a some toilet paper and it carcked!!!! :laugh: :laugh:

I am suprised they didnt tell me the flux capacitor as well........probably dont have one is stock

Sounds like your in a right mess there.

The reason it cost soo much for all these problems is because your at a VW dealer. Price would be much cheaper had this been done at an independent garage. These probs are all reasonable problems that can happen on cars and its impossible for anyone on here to say without looking at your car.

You can either take note of whats wrong, thank them for serviceing the car and take it else where and getit fixed up, or just bite the bullet and get it done.

i'm surprised they didn't just ask you for an arm.

as far as i know the water pump isn't needed but its recommended as the genuine one is prone to failing, the other problem is that if you don't fit the genuine one then if things do go wrong, VW wont pay to have it fixed.

you can't change the water pump without changing the cam belt (taking it off atleast)

headlight control module? do you mean the leveling unit? is there something wrong with the head lights?

hold on 40K the cam belt is 60K although recommended 40k - 60k

if i was you i'd take it too another dealer and see what they say.

which dealer was this by the way?

I just cant see how all this can go wrong after 40k,

yeah it is the leveling unit, as far as I can tell there is nothing worng with the lights.

They also want to change the breakfluid. is this not done on teh service?

Can anyone tell me what work shoul dbe done on the 40k just so I know what to check they have done.

really annoyed they didnt pick up the trip problem as well

Get it checked out elsewhere. They are just taking the p!ss!

the brake fluid would be extra and that should be done every 40k or 2 years.

i'd have to check my book, but i know that the air filter is 40k.

are you on xenons becuase the whole light only costs £400 the only other part would be the sensor but can't see that costing so much

So they would charge £400 to change the air filter and oil? must be more, if could check your book I would be gratefull, cant seem to find it online.

Yeah the lights are xenon. the car was is france for a while to the lights were swapped for french ones. Then I swapped them back about 8 months ago. but i was out last night and cant see any problems, VW seem to think that its self adjusting depending on weight in the car that is the problem.

will check when i get home, but from the top of my head the minor is

oil, filter, drain fuel filter

this is included in the major but the fuel filter is changed

air filter, pollen filter, grease the runners / hinges

there might be a coolant change but will have to check.

think i paid £200 odd for my major at an independent

there should be a sensor on the axel that tells the lights how much weight is in the car and adjust the xenons appropriately, this might be what they are trying to sting you for, i can't see that being £500 though.  all the levelling motors and stuff are in the unit itself, if the motor has gone in the unit then, they might be trying to tap you up for that, at which point they cost £400

could be worth getting the part number from them for this part and trying a different garage as the price do vary.
