FK Coilover users...which ones to go for?
« on: 07 February 2008, 12:23 »
Ok, from what I can tell there are 3 different versions, the cheapest ones just do the front then there are 2 other sets, ones for around £500 then ones for around £600.....

I want to improve the handling as much as I can, so will be changing the bushes etc when I change the suspension, (will need advice on what to change when Im doing all this too)

But..are these the best of the best for £500-£600? and..is there anything that comes close in the £300-£350 bracket?

I am going to be doing mainly hard road driving (to the trackdays!) and some plesure driving...

Only looking to go down 20-40mm as Its not for looks, purely for function - things have changed since my Saxo days where I would be looking at billies and ebech springs (excuse the spelling!)

But would I be right in thinking that Coilovers are a big step forward compaired to springs and shocks?

Cheers all :)

i only have experience of the konigsports with the koni damper inserts and they are very good! if i were you id find out what dampers are in the others and go for some with the koni inserts, also look out for adjustable damping if you like to play about with the cars handling

I have a set of FK Highsports, and they are spot on. You cant ajust the dampening but to be honest I wouldnt have needed to.  They are firm but take up all the small bumps well, and are generally smooth as hell!  Well recommended.

Look for Weitek's for about £550 you can get height and damping adjustment, plus they are galvanised to resist corrosion.

Ball joints, bushes, wishbones if they are rusty as... handy as they can be bought with the bushes in.

Replace the top mounts at the front too with G60 ones which are stronger.

I've been using FK Highsports for nearly 2 years and am very impressed with the ride. I paid about £380 back then. They are not damper adjustable but i dropped it about 100mm and the ride is good... it's firm but not harsh!!! It corners like the cars on tracks!!! I recommend changing the front top mounts (preferably replace with G60 ones) and the rear rubber mounts don't usually need changing so can be re-used. you may also consider changing the wishbone balljoints and tie rod ends while your at it. if your wishbone bushes are worn replace those as well. These will all tighten up your handling and even more so with a strut brace. poly bushes are good but it'll make the ride hard. Hope that helps mate.
