Servicing
« on: 30 March 2004, 21:49 »
Hi

I recently posted a topic on MPG and I think its maybe time for a service. The car is P reg 65000 miles 2.0 ltr gti MK3.

Can anyone suggest what things I may need to do.

Thanks for any feed back

Depends when it was last serviced and which service it was as VW specify various intervals:
Every 10k: oil change
Every 12 months (check hoses for leaks, brake pad thickness, etc and oil if covering less than 10k a year). Basically this is just a check of components.
Every 20k: all above and spark plugs, air filter, etc.

If you want a full breakdown let me know as long list in Haynes manual and this is only a summary. The crucial thing to check is when and if the cambelt and tensioner have been replaced. if never it is worth doing asap, just to be on the safe side.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I bought the car in December and changed the cam belt. I was realy looking for a general idea of what to change/service as I got the impression that the car is using slightly to much petrol judging by some of the answers in my previous topic.
Being new to MK3 and gti's any info is much appreciated.

thanks
