Hey y'all
Just after a bit of feedback...
I have 2 digi mk2s:
1989 3 door with:
2.0l bottom end TSR head (getting on now)
MK2 Golf GTI 16v front engine mount
MK2 1991 Golf GTI 16v front hubs with Golf G60 280mm Calliper carriers.
MK2 1996 Golf GTI 16v Callipers
Koni Sport Top Adjustable suspension
HR lowering springs
Supersprint exhaust system
Black diamond clutch
Corrado rear axle
1990 5 door:
Standard spec
Oil burning std engine
The 3 door has done 310,000 miles, but been very well looked after mechanically, but the bodywork is very poor.
The 5 door is a much nicer car, just a few rust spots round rear arches, done 110,000miles, doors dont droop, doesn't leak etc, but the running gear is old and knackered.
I am thinking of swapping all the good stuff from the 3 door to the 5 door. I have a new engine to go in anyway. This is a 1.8l GTi unit, totally rebuilt bored and long-stroked to 2.0l, ported head, fast cam, balanced crank, re-worked oilways, lightened balanced flywheel. It's a KJet head but going in a digi - I've been told it will be fine if I just swap the injector seats over. I want a sensible ride height -the 3 door is no good for road use (I'm thinking Eibach 20mm lowering). Otherwise I want the car to look standard.
Then I need to swap out:
Shocks
Brake master cylinder
Brake lines
Hubs, calipers, carriers etc
Rear axle (may not bother)
Engine mounts
Gear change linkage
Exhaust
Driveshafts
etc etc
My questions are:
Is it worth the effort!?
Will the digi fuelling and ECU systems work OK with the K jet head and provide enuf fuel etc for the 2.0l?
Can I manage it with standard tools (trolley jack, big socket set and a hammer!) [engine crane i need to hire]
Helpful encouragement, options and advice greatly appreciated!
