time for a change...
« on: 05 February 2008, 22:26 »
Hi guys

I've currently got a golf Mk3 1.6l 74bhp and am after a little more power (and economy).

I first looked at the Mk4 Golf GT TDI 130ps, but seeing as the insurance company (RAC) tell me that I have to be over 21 to get insured on it, i'm now looking at a 115 or 110ps GT TDI.

I guess the 115 and 110 models were produced at different times, is there much between them in terms of performance (except 5ps!)?

When looking for a GT TDI are there any common problems or faults I should be aware of?

Thanks

the 115 bhp engine is the "baby" Pump Duse engine and came in around 2001

the pump duse meant more power whilst maintaining the same or better economy.

looking at parkers there is very little between the two, and they are both group 10, the 115 is 6 speed so you should have better in gear acceleration due to them being closer.

the PD engines generally remap better than the non PD although they are very fussy about what oil you put in them.

general problems can be found here
