leak ///replacing sunroof drain tube???
« on: 05 February 2008, 21:36 »

i have a leaky sunroof drain tube wich i am going to replace,
just got the drain tubes delivered,
i have figured out how to remove the headliner and the sunroof shouldnt be too hard,

im just wondering how to replace the drain tube, is it just a cas of sliding out the old one and sliding in a new one from the top?
is there any special technique i should use
thanks

drain tunes are not that long they go on each corner, u can get to the back ones maybe without removing the headliner, iv done the sunroof swap before, alone too, wasnt easy, u will find it a million times easier if theirs 2 of you (then again if ur not removing the sunroof u should be fine on your own)

my guess is tho, u just need to clean your tubes and guides out then they wont leak.....

basically the front sunroof drains are leaking into the front footwells, they were blocked so i stuck a coat hanger up them and out came all the gunk,

now if i pour a cup of water into the holes either side of the sunroof i can see the water drains freely through out of the door gromets like it should ,but it still comes into the footwells aswell, this has lead me to think that there is a hole in the tubes,

there are no leaks in the rear so im guessing the rear drains are fine, just the front ones i gotta replace.

wot do you mean by guides? i have cleaned the tubes out already and they still leak

the guides are the bits round the edge of the sunroof opening where the water goes before it does into the tubes, as just said, now check the seasl round the edge of the glass, my old one was spilt too and leaked, they are pretty expensive to buy, cant remeber but think about 40 notes, stu g will kno if he just got one

you may have put a hole in the drain tube, but i would think that would be hard to do, are u also sure you got all the crap out of the tubes...

well the water is not coming through the headlining at all it only gets wet in the footwell,

if i dry the footwell out and pour some water down the sunroof i can put my arm up under the dash and feel were the tube connects to the door hinge and i can feel water coming from there.

if i had a problem with my sunroof seals in the roof then the headlining would be wet and water would be coming in through the roof, wouldnt it??
