can any one help mk3 not starting!

Can any one help Mk3 gti 8v one 73,000 N-reg. The car came home from work this morning no problem started a couple of hours later it ran for about half a mile coughed and stopped.
 
checked over car got fuel in pistons well plugs are wet and can smell petrol. Got a good spark at the plugs when cranked over. changed fuel filter today. its had dizzy cap plug leads plugs rotar arm all less than 2000 mls ago
Checked relay 3 in fuse box it clicks on ignition not a guarentee of working i know but at least it trys. 

I'm well stuck any suggestions please? cheers Dave

Been at it again today, put a new relay in still no result! Also checked timing, the car is engine code AEK and it has the AGG simos management & fuel system.  Any help would be appriciated

Im not a mk3 nerd but check the Crank Sensor. Quite a common problem.

The sensor is behind the front engine mount so you will ned to remove that to gain access.

ecu coolant temp sensor would be my first port of call
