recaro's - recovering - FAO joe...
« on: 04 February 2008, 09:29 »
right then...

taken it upon myself to recover my recaros.

stripped the passenger seat covers off last night, took all of about 30mins...

gonna take all the stitching apart, then make a pattern then sew them up.

question 1) will a normal sewing machine be able to sew leather? if not will it sew fake elather stuff...

question 2) the recaro sign, (this is the bit mainly aimed at joe...) can you, or will anyone else be able to copy or re-produce this image for me... i know about copyright laws b4 anyone gets on thier high horse. so if you PM to avoid being arrested joe, i'd be very greatful...

haha, looks more like my mom...which is probs closer to the truth!

taking some piccies as i go along. gonna do the passenger side first, so i know how it works, then i'll take pics of the driver side stage by stage...

thats unless i have to post it all to joe and have him do it, which will uber hurt my wallet.

going for the black leather and white details im thinking, will match the car.

A modern sewing machine should cope with upolstery leather, but you will need a special leather needle for the machine.

its my moms machine (obviously, i dont really sew too often if i tell the truth) so just need to re-assure her it wont explode. she's being well amrdy about it!

i'll buy a sed leather needle then.

now just the question abut having the recaro logo sewed back in...

yeah if you take it steady a decent home sewing machine should cope with it. i use an industrial machine, obviously, but sometimes its not man enough! (i'm getting a big mutha f**k*r soon!)
yes get a leather needle and also buy a hardcore thread, a 40/30 weight will do.

and yes i can get the recaro logo embroidered for you if you send me the material.

your a god joe!

just an idea, but if iw ere to slap all the covers in a box and mail it you, would you copy them and sew them up in black elather/fake leather? or do you need the foam shizzle too for fitting?

cheers

rob

nah i could make the covers for you, i have a few sets of recaro's knocking about that i could use. but in all honesty i don't like doing covers as the fitting can make alot of difference to how they end up looking. i'd also need the centre sections if i were to do it and the headrests complete.

oh but i'm pretty much fully booked up until mid april now....
