Newly fitted 19's on my R32 (with pics)
« on: 03 February 2008, 14:51 »
Newly fitted 19x8 CMS C8 alloys. They're stunning when the light catches them. They can look a little grey when in the shade but I’m very happy and I think they really suit the car. The 235/35 profile of the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres looks perfect. They're not too “rubber band” and not too chunky either. I’ve only driven 130 miles on them so far but even at this stage they offer good levels of grip. The ride is a little firmer but that’s a good thing as there’s now more information coming through the steering wheel. Road noise is up ever so slightly but it’s not intrusive.

I have however had the rears rub a couple of times. On both occasions, it happened when the car squatted after coming down from a hump at higher speed. I’d obviously hoped this wouldn’t happen but I’m sure it can be remedied.

Overall, I’m delighted with my first mod! Here are a few pics...

Cheers
Dave

....They suit the R32 extremely well.

One of the distinctive features of both the Mk4 and Mk5 R32's is the 'multi-spoke' look and your choice keeps that 'tradition'.

Seeing that first pic has confirmed in my mind that I'll choose the R32 rear valance to go with my R32 sides on my GTI (in another thread) - Thanks!

The rubbiing could just be down to your tyre choice, different makes are slightly different shapes. A friend of mine has a mk5 GTi on 19's and its lowered, when he was running Toyo Tir's there was no rubbing, he replaced the fronts with the Michelin PS2 and they rub quite badly and have damaged his arches. When you compare the tyres you can see the Michelins have a much squarer sidewall.

O yes, the wheels look mint!

....Also, a 'high jump' with most cars may result in a tyre rub. It's when you aren't anywhere near any limit and it happens that you need to do something about it. If mine start to rub I know I'm pushing too hard (road use).
